in the news...

27 JANUARY 2010

Starting a new campaign in February to boost exposure to my new printing venture. Between commissions and such over the last couple of weeks, I've been stock piling new print designs to offer through the website and through various local venues. The campaign, entitled "Make Art. Make Love. Make Friends." will start being advertised in the February 2010 issue of A+C Magazine here in Dallas.

I'll have some swell prints with the campaign slogan soon, available in a set of three hand silk screened prints, in limited quantities, of course. In addition, as to celebrate my infatuation with the famous Hatch Show Print shop in Nashville, TN, I'll soon be issuing a 'Hatch-style' Hank Williams show poster, like this one:

I'm excited about these new prints that are currently in the que to print. The next couple of months look to be quite interesting, not to mention busy. Stay tuned for these prints to be available for sale soon.

16 JANUARY 2010

Bumped into my favorite comic book artist/writer at an art opening in Dallas the other night, in support of another artist friend. Ladies and Gents, "The Crow" creator/artist/writer James O'Barr:

I always manage to look super retarded in every photo I'm in. Oh well. It was a great evening and a wonderful opportunity to speak with James again. Curious to see his record collection.

"...Love Is All You Need." Playing around with this image for the fun of it. May have this and some other Lennon canvases up for grabs soon.

You guys will be missed...

One of the reasons I was happy to see 2009 end was for the fact that my 'Fab Four' paintings got pinched from a hotel in downtown Dallas the week of my birthday. Would really love to have these babies back in my possesion, but I suppose I'll have to settle for the insurance check instead. If anyone knows the whereabouts of these paintings, please contact me. Each piece measures 24" x 24", mixed media on wood panel; created in 2008.

04 JANUARY 2010

Happy New Year, everyone. Hope the new year and the start of the new decade is already promising to be quite good for you guys. As much as I've been enjoying some much-needed down time, I figure it's time to get things in gear. Just posted some new work in the 'paint' section with more to come soon. Also, have new prints on the way, as well as a major commission currently in the works. (I'll unveil the the details when the time is right.) The clothing line is getting some tweaking this year, as is the 'to do' list.

I've figured out that the best thing I can do for myself in this new year is to work small, not neccessarily small paintings, mind you, but continue to work closer with the local venues that represent my work. The trend of hand made goods being made in limited quantities has become more and more appealing, so that is the route I plan to take this year.

Lastly, I'm making it a priority to keep the website update regularly...the blog and store front, too.

Here's to a prosperous 2010!

12 DECEMBER 2009

New updates coming soon, I promise. Just been a little busy, lately. In the meantime, enjoy this message from John and Yoko...

And if you are looking for a last minute gift idea, look no further than a limited edition Marlon Brando art print, inspired by his role as 'Johnny' in the film "The Wild One". (This is a study of an original painting I have planned, but I liked the study so much it's available as a print from my Imagekind shop.)

Available in many size/frame combinations at Imagekind, as well as other prints of recent work. Click here to shop.

23 NOVEMBER 2009

Want to wish everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving. Now...go stuff your faces and think about how grateful you are to be alive.

14 NOVEMBER 2009

It's beginning to be that time of year where my insonmia kicks in (severely) and my head is filled with new art ideas. Instead of simply laying in bed, trying to fall asleep, I decided to put some thoughts down on paper, then down in my computer. Thirty minutes later, I have a whole art show planned out:

09 NOVEMBER 2009

Been waiting on some new shirt prototypes to arrive to the studio in order to gauge what graphics I want to print on them. Prototypes arrived today, and after getting a feel for the cut and material of the shirts, I must say I'm quite excited to see what gets printed on these things! Feast your eyes on one of the latest designs that will see production within the coming weeks:

Total coincidence that this design would be produced on the anniversary of JFK's assassination. Total coincidence...Debating on making this design a limited edition tee. I'll let you know.

06 NOVEMBER 2009

Gotta a Mick Jagger commission due in two days. No sweat...New goodies making their store debut in the coming weeks. I know I've been saying that for weeks, but now I have the money to back it up. Lots of goodies...November is turning out to be a great month so far. Looking forward to that turkey, mashed taters and lots of rest.

26 OCTOBER 2009

Busy, busy, busy...just got a very lucrative commission through one of my galleries this week. I'll be painting five 8' x 8' (roughly) canvases for an upscale condo/office building in Dallas, opening in March 2010. I'll actually have to have my work complete by early February. Still need to finalize the final price tag, but it will worth every penny.

I took this photo of my friend Jonathan the other night at a local gig. Gotta love the Photoshop App for iPhone...

20 OCTOBER 2009

For those who don't believe, here is photographic proof that the hair got cut...finally.

Now onto new business...here is another "Elvis '56" piece to add to the series of 10. Have only three more to do to wrap up this first wave of Elvis prints. This one is headed to Seattle this week, finding a new home in the ever-growing collection of my friends Brandon and Julie.

I have a business meeting later this week for a potentially lucrative gig. Mum is the word for now. When everything is set in stone, I'll spill more details about. Now, off to do some prelim drawings for this meeting.

14 OCTOBER 2009

One of the latest pieces to come out of the studio, heading off to Pop Chicago Gallery later this week. I'm liking it. Just wish I could enjoy it a little longer than two days...

Will follow this one up with a 'Ms. Marvel' and an '80s style 'Joker' this evening. With the exception of one last commission to finish, most of my painting obligations will be met for the Fall, which I'll finally be able to move forward with more tee designs and silk screened prints...baby steps. Baby steps. Also, made my 'zombie chicks' paintings available through my Etsy store today. "In Love With A Zombie" is limited to 10 hand painted/printed copies, customizable any way you want. Check out the store front for more details. napkinart.etsy.com

13 OCTOBER 2009

I've been bad about this in the past, about not continually promoting current art shows that I have going on. Since my new site is working out just fine, here is the current show I have on display with my friend, Kat, at The Cameron Gallery - 1414 Dragon Street / Dallas, TX. There are nearly 20 new works on canvas, a collaboration between Kat and myself. We touch on old advertisement ideas while bring a modern abstraction and approach to classic imagery....sort of "Mad Men" meets pop. For more info, please visit The Cameron Gallery website.

In other news, the individual paintings of my 'zombie chicks' can now be seen in the 'paint' section, and are now available for acquisition. Please contact for pricing. Here is an image of the two pieces side by side:

12 OCTOBER 2009

Thought I'd post a quick pic of a piece I'll have on display at The Soda Gallery this weekend, for the opening of "They Won't Stay Dead: A Trbute to Cult Film Icons" art show, co-produced by Boomstick Comics. This is a detail of one of the two panels:

Silk Screen and Acrylic on Canvas / 12" x 12" (2009).

This piece will be for sale for the duration of the art show, running through mid-November. Will post images of the finished diptych in the paintings section shortly.

11 OCTOBER 2009

Hello everyone, and welcome to the *NEW* and improved website for Napkin Art Studio I've decided to merge both fascets of my art into one place; the fine art of Napkin Art Studios and the commercial end that is Telephone Print Co. I'm a busy guy and don't have time to update a million pages in a million places, so this helps me out wuite a bit. Thanks to my buddy Jay Simon for helping me out revamp everything.

If you are looking for my painting archives, or looking for samples of posters, prints and my new clothing line, "Deathray of Sunshine," then you have come to the right place. Witht eh stream-lined look and function of the new site, I'll be better equiped to keep this baby more up to date and fresh with new material. Please bear with me as pages get built over the next few weeks, and more content is added.

Rock n' Roll. ~J. Kimbrell
